MWS News: June 16, 2008
Welcome back to the Minnick Web Services Newsletter!
The weather is starting to heat up here in Sacramento,
and so is the activity at MWS headquarters. Here’s a
little bit of what we’ve been up to in the past month:
1. We’re Switching to Green Hosting
We've reached the point where we need to upgrade our Web
hosting servers, and I see this as an opportunity to do
something good for the Earth and our clients. So, we’ve
partnered with Web hosting provider DreamHost to move our
hosting operations to their green servers. DreamHost is a
very reliable hosting company, and they are certified
carbon-neutral. Over the next few months, we will be
transitioning all of our hosting clients' sites to new
servers. Current web hosting clients can expect to be
contacted soon to schedule a good time to move their site.
2. Interop Dance Contest
Our team recently built a YouTube-like site for Interop
Las Vegas’ Dance Competition party. The site was built
very quickly using Drupal, and existed only for a couple
weeks leading up to the event. The site’s no longer live,
but we found a funny YouTube video documenting the sorts
of things that went on at this party. Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7n7-rTy-xI
3. Is Print Dead?
Mara, Margaret and I had a great time in LA as sponsors of
the Western Publications Association Conference. The
experience naturally left me pondering the fate of print
publications as more and more information moves online.
My thoughts on that are the basis for one of my most recent InternetEvolution.com columns. You can read it at:

Hope your summer gets off to a great start. Please let me
know if you have any questions or if there are any topics
you’d like to see covered in an upcoming newsletter.
Thanks!
-Chris
